Your child is not lumped into a group based on age or so-called ability. Instead, each child is individually presented new lessons using specialized teaching materials which touch upon all aspects of life. Each child works based on his/her own interest and ability. These lessons are formally categorized as follows. Practical Life
Have you noticed that your child wants to do things “by myself, by myself”?! In these exercises, your child will master daily activities such as pouring, washing, sewing, buttons, zippers, etc. These fun exercises help perfect fine motor skills while encouraging your child’s desire for independence. SensorialThrough hands-on manipulation of colours, shapes, sounds, textures and smells, your child learns to be specific in exploring each sense. While physically examining the finer differences in size, shade, shape, etc, your child begins to categorize details and group things logically together. These lessons are a concrete preparation for the more abstract groupings of math and geometry. They also help to expand his/her vocabulary as the child is encouraged to describe things in detail. Language
Through a phonetic approach, your child is given the “code” to breakdown language into its parts. As opposed to the traditional method of memorizing blocks of words, your child will be given the tools to create the “whole” from its parts. In this way, children logically piece together language and begin reading and grammar from an early age. The French language is introduced and integrated in different lessons throughout the day. MathematicsThe complexities of math are broken down into their basic units and presented to your child with beautifully designed beads and wooden materials. Beginning with concrete forms and numbers, your child learns the numbers 1-10. From there, he/she will slowly build into the abstract. This brilliant method renders the complexities of math completely accessible to young children and allows them to add, subtract, multiply and divide at an early age. Concepts such as fractions and the decimal system are also introduced. Culture & Science
These lessons expand the child’s global vision. Through an introduction to geography using large colourful wooden puzzle maps, your child is made aware of the world around us. Emphasis is also placed on one’s own family time line which children find extremely interesting and important. Connections are made with other cultures and children around the world using music, stories and language. These lessons also include the science of plants and animals. Your child will learn the unique vocabulary associated with animals and plants. Do not be surprised to hear your child say such words as “cephalathorax!” Music & ArtYour child’s creativity is encouraged through specific art projects throughout the year using various art materials. Special guests from the Montreal Symphony Orchestra expose the children to classical music through mini-performances and hands-on experience. Emphasis is on rhythm and on differentiating between different instrument sounds and tones. Dedication to FamilyOur teachers are very open to parents and their concerns. We schedule regular parent-teacher meetings and allow time for daily exchanges regarding your child’s comfort and progress. We are very interested in providing what is best for your child and your family unit as a whole. Dedication to Nature
At Inspiration Montessori, we aim to instil the deepest respect and love for our natural surroundings. We use natural soaps and detergents and teach children about recycling. We offer outings to local farms and encourage children to care for plants and animals alike. Our pet fish, “Monty” is loved by all and our classroom plants enjoy regular leaf washes and watering. |
